C57BL/6-cBrd/cBrd/Cr

Origin and Characteristics:

Received by NCI from Allan Bradley at Baylor College of Medicine in 2000. The C57BL/6-cBrd/cBrd strain is a spontaneous albino mutant coisogenic C57BL/6 strain. The mice contain a mutation in the c-(tyrosinase gene) and when homozygous for the mutation the coat color of the mice is albino rather than black (See Liu, P. et al Genetics.1998 150:1155-68).

This mouse line is therefore useful as a source of albino C57BL/6 embryos for generating chimeras with either C57BL/6 (Black) ES cells, such as Bruce-4, (Seong E, et al Trends Genet. 2004 20:59-62) or 129 derived ES cells, where both the Black and Agouti coat colors of the ES cells can be readily observed against the albino host coat color.
