Ground Transport of Biological Substance, Category B

This training does not apply to shipments of materials via FedEx or any other air carrier.
All other classes of dangerous goods will be packaged by ALS.
Biological Substance: Definition
Biological Substance, category B are defined as any human or animal material, including, but not limited to, excreta, screta, blood and it’s components, tissue and tissue fluids being transported for diagnostic or investigational purposes, but excluding live infected humans and animals
Biological Substances Include:
- Cells
- Cell lines
- Tissues/Tissue Fluids
- Blood/Blood Products
- Body Fluids
- Animal Parts
- The above containing infectious substances (except on certain occasions)
Biological Substances Do NOT Include:
- Tissues/Animal Parts Which are fixed/dead
- DNA/Plasmid DNA
- Infectious substance which are purified or in culture and other specific infectious substances– These Will Be Packaged By ALS
- Contact Dana (x7655) or Theresa (x5038) with questions regarding the classification of your shipment

- Watertight Primary and Secondary
- No More Than 500 ml
- Cushioning/Absorbent
- Rigid Outer Packaging
- Biohazard Label
