Anthrax Vaccine Adsorbed:
A Systems Biology Approach to Determining the Factors Mediating Safety and Immunogenicity

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

The purpose of this study is to further our understanding of how humans develop immunity to anthrax following vaccination with anthrax vaccine. We will be evaluating changes in gene expression patterns and in certain chemicals found in human blood at various time points after receiving Doses 1, 2, and 3 of anthrax vaccine adsorbed (AVA).

Prospective volunteers must meet the following criteria:

  • Scheduled to receive Dose 1 of AVA in USAMRIID’s SIP (Vaccine Group)
    Or
Willing to receive the first 3 doses of AVA (Vaccine Group)
    Or
Never have been exposed to anthrax or received the anthrax vaccine (Control Group)
  • Male or non-pregnant, non-lactating female 18–50 years of age — our choice age range is 18–35 years
  • In good general health
  • Willing to undergo HIV and Hepatitis B and C screening tests (if not completed within the past year)
  • (For females) Willing to use approved contraception to prevent pregnancy until after completion of study

Volunteer participation in this study will last approximately 9 months.

Blood will be drawn multiple times during the period pre- and post-administration of Doses 1, 2, and 3 of anthrax vaccine.

There is no benefit for participating in this research. However, volunteers will be compensated for all blood draws.
